Tom Platzer was born 1962 and grew up in Vienna Austria. His passion for photography emerged from the early age of 8 years old when his Grandmother gave him his first camera. Since that day, he has always had a camera by his side.
In the mid 1980’s whilst in Monaco, a chance meeting with the late great HELMUT NEWTON resulted in Tom having the fortune to work as one of his assistants. Tom relished the opportunity and quickly developed his craft to make a profession of his passion.
By 1988 Tom was contracted as a professional press photographer in Vienna, where he shot celebrity photographs for a weekly magazine. With this experience, and by now impressive photographic portfolio, he also was given further assignments with Austria’s biggest selling magazine NEWS where he regularly shot front covers.
From 1992 Tom established his own studio in the heart of Vienna, whilst still spending most of his time traveling the world on photo shoots for major world wide advertising agencies such as BBDO, LOWE, SAATCHI & SAATCHI, OGILVY & MATHER.
During this time he photographed many famous people, Royalty, Heads of State, and other luminaries from European society.
By 2004 Tom added to his vast photographic repertoire another passionate side to his work – charity exhibitions, which have raised huge awareness and sizeable donations for their relative causes.
Meanwhile, Tom continued his private interest in photographing landscapes, and further developed his love of photographic art by completing his Master of Fine Arts at RMIT in Melbourne Australia where he concentrated his thesis on exploring themes such as “The Abstraction of Light”.
